Moar Things About Brisbane

I think today I have been here for five weeks.

Some more things that I have learned and noticed about Brisbane:

  • There is a lot of sky, even in the "city". It's almost claustrophobia-inducing. I don't know how that is possible. It just is. Shut up.
  • Nobody is too cool to hail the bus. In Melbourne, everyone is too cool to hail the bus.
  • The library has 32 branches. Thirty-two!
  • The area around where I'm living has been coloured in with a weird, limited palette. Black/grey/white, brown, and an odd, alien spectrum of greens.
  • In Brisbane, people watch television. In Brisbane, I have been watching television. Weird, huh?
  • I can go outside on an overcast day in August and be perfectly warm enough in a T-shirt. What's more, I can go outside in an overcoat on an evening in August and be too warm.
  • There doesn't appear to be anywhere to eat delicious dumplings and fried sliced rice cake. But that's okay, because the awesome Burlington's supermarket is so awesome that I can have those things at home! Nom nom nom.
  • It smells different.

Things are starting to feel familiar. But it all still kind of reminds me of San Francisco, which kind of sets me reminiscing about travelling int the US last year ... but that's a whole nother story.

I remember this time last year, when you had just set out and the atmosphere was filled to bursting with hope and anticipation and discovery and wonder. How much of it have you retained? More than I have?

Also, since I have been unable to catch you elsewhere - I can has mailing address?

That's a fairly large set of questions. I may be posting things that go some way towards answering them over the next month or so.

I will send an address to what I hope is still your Gmail address.
