Incandescent light bulbs: enemies of the environment, arbitrarily aesthetically pleasing objects!

Project 365 – Day Thirty

Today so far in a nutshell: woke up, felt unwell, got up, sat around, felt unwell, went back to bed. (Rinse, repeat). Realised it was late and I hadn't taken a picture. Went "Gargh". Turned on camera to be greeted by flashing battery light. Went "Gargh". Took a picture of the infinite corridor slightly strange corridor outside the front door and uploaded it before the battery died altogether.

At least there were waffles! (not pictured)

Project 365 – Day Twenty-Nine

Tonight I forgot to take my camera out, so although there was some kind of educational something on that had filled the streets with children I did not get to practise my wildlife photography skills on them.

I was also unable to document the horror and chaos that followed the evening's record store rickrolling.

So here is a picture of chocolate with coconut in it. Chocolate with coconut in it is one of the best kinds of chocolate.

Project 365 – Day Twenty-Eight

Turtles swimming in the ground remind me of the friend from Melbourne who caught up with me while she was in Brisbane last week.

After she left I was reminded of how I felt after leaving Internet Bruce behind in Chicago and striking out on my own again. Moderation is not my strong suit, so zero is easier to adjust to than 5%.

Moar Things About Brisbane

I think today I have been here for five weeks.

Some more things that I have learned and noticed about Brisbane:

  • There is a lot of sky, even in the "city". It's almost claustrophobia-inducing. I don't know how that is possible. It just is. Shut up.
  • Nobody is too cool to hail the bus. In Melbourne, everyone is too cool to hail the bus.
  • The library has 32 branches. Thirty-two!
  • The area around where I'm living has been coloured in with a weird, limited palette. Black/grey/white, brown, and an odd, alien spectrum of greens.
  • In Brisbane, people watch television. In Brisbane, I have been watching television. Weird, huh?
  • I can go outside on an overcast day in August and be perfectly warm enough in a T-shirt. What's more, I can go outside in an overcoat on an evening in August and be too warm.
  • There doesn't appear to be anywhere to eat delicious dumplings and fried sliced rice cake. But that's okay, because the awesome Burlington's supermarket is so awesome that I can have those things at home! Nom nom nom.
  • It smells different.

Things are starting to feel familiar. But it all still kind of reminds me of San Francisco, which kind of sets me reminiscing about travelling int the US last year ... but that's a whole nother story.
